Unlock $125M in Scholarships to Fund Your Future at York U
Waiting on your offer? Get a head start on scholarship applications.
Figuring out how to pay for university is an important part of planning your future, and it doesn't have to feel overwhelming. Scholarships and awards are one of the best ways to make your education more affordable. At York University, we are proud to offer our students $125 million in scholarships.
Here's the best way to take advantage of our scholarships, bursaries and awards.
1. Research the different types of scholarships
Check what awards and scholarships you can apply to as a Canadian high-school applicant. Some awards will be automatic while others will require an application or a nomination.
Automatic Awards
Once you apply to York, you'll be assessed for automatic entrance scholarships based on your final average. High-school students who apply for Fall 2026 are immediately considered for entrance scholarships valued at up to $14,000.
Nomination-based Awards
These awards require a nomination from a third party such as your high school and often recognize achievements such as academic excellence, leadership, community involvement, artistic talent or athletic performance. Connect with your guidance counsellor to learn more about what's required from your school.
Awarded to high-school students interested in STEM programs, the Schulich Leader Scholarship is a nomination-based scholarship valued at $100,000 ($25,000 × 4 years) for students admitted to Science, Technology, or Mathematics programs, and at $120,000 ($30,000 × 4 years) for students admitted to an Engineering program in the Lassonde School of Engineering.
Pro tip: Don't miss these deadlines to apply!
- Nomination deadline: January 28, 2026
- Application deadline: February 18, 2026
2. Check the application deadlines
Application deadlines will not all be the same. When searching for awards, look for an award title, dollar amount and how to submit your application. Keep these differences in mind by writing down the awards you'd like to apply for and their dates — this will help you stay on track.
Pro tip: Many awards have deadlines throughout the year. Create a calendar reminder to check deadlines regularly so you don't miss out!
3. Apply for scholarships and awards!
As long as you have applied to York, you can apply for scholarships and awards right away. You don't need to wait for an offer of admission.
